Fishing planet michigan trout11/13/2023 ![]() The longer the rod, the further it can cast It all boils down to really trial and error but I have found the following to be mostly true: However, the basic casting distance is determined by the inherent capabilities of the rod, reel, line (as described by Carpman99), and the type of bobber, sinker, and/or even the bait can make a difference. There could be other factors like wear and tear and the amount of stretch involved as well. Mono is the cheapest, hard to see with good distance. Braid is the thinnest and you'll get the best distances but might have trouble with shy fish. Fluoro is the thickest and (supposedly) can't be seen but limits your casting distance. ![]()
